Surfing Australia

Surfing Australia LogoSurfing Australia is pleased to be offering its Sporting Schools program to schools across Australia. The Sporting Schools initiative is extremely exciting for all involved and we are keen to grow our sport and help children do more sport, more often.

Surfing Australia is also pleased to partner with Sport Australia to deliver this $200 million Australian Government initiative.

As the national sporting organisation (NSO) for Surfing we offer schools and coaches quality programs that encourage children to participate in this great sport.

nudie surf groms

"There are a lot of kids who I think would be really keen to try surfing, and who don’t have parents who surf. The SurfGroms Program is a wonderful way to get kids involved in the sport and to actually teach them not only riding waves, but surf safety which is a big benefit of the program."  Mark Richards, four times Surfing World Champion.

THE SURFING AUSTRALIA PRODUCT

Surf Groms logoWhilst the younger surfers are still developing fundamental movements such as balance, agility and coordination, older children are far more developed both mentally and physically, requiring a different approach when learning new skills.

To cater for this variation in skills, Surfing Australia has developed nudie SurfGroms for two distinct age categories:

  • MiniGroms - 5-8 year olds
  • SuperGroms - 9-12 year olds

TEACHERS AND COACHES ARE OUR ASSETS

Surfing Australia values the role of teachers not just in the classroom but in the school yard as well. Their enthusiasm for improving children’s lives is often understated. Society places its trust and confidence in teachers who as educators, have one of the most important roles for our children, outside of parents and carers.

Coaches are also a wonderful influence on children throughout their formative years. Coaches are the people who deliver the skills with fun and enjoyment.

The information below is a guide to how schools, coaches and sporting organisations can deliver the Surfing Australia program within Sporting Schools.
