Sporting Schools expands into secondary schools
Both locally and internationally, research has shown that there is a decline in sport participation for youth between 13-17 years old.
The targeted secondary schools program – focusing on Year 7 and 8 students, particularly girls – aims to address this and encourage a lifelong love of sport.
In order to help our sport partners develop their approach for secondary schools, the ASC undertook the Youth Participation Project last year to look at the most successful strategies that help spark the motivations and interests of students aged 12-17. The project collaborated with a range of national sporting organisations to deliver pilot programs (across five terms) in more than 100 schools around Australia.
Sporting Schools has already funded over 150 secondary schools and aims to fund more schools each term, giving Year 7 and 8 students the chance to enjoy and sample a variety of sports.
